Pasticceria Buonamici
Artisan pastry shop in the Oltrarno. Flaky croissants still warm at seven in the morning, perfectly pulled espresso. A historic Florentine institution where mornings are a ritual. Order at the bar like the locals do.
The first cappuccino of the day matters. These are the cafes and pastry shops I would actually recommend in Florence: classic counters, flaky croissants, and the kind of morning ritual locals still take seriously.

One of the most-loved artisan pastry shops in the centre. Homemade croissants, quality coffee, authentic atmosphere far from mass tourism. Great for a mid-morning snack too.
Founded in 1733, Gilli is Florence's oldest and most iconic café, on Piazza della Repubblica. Yes, tourists come here. But it's worth it at least once — standing at the marble bar with an espresso. Outdoor tables available to enjoy the square.
A multi-branch café celebrated for excellent pastries and a great brunch menu. My favourite branch is in the Oltrarno: ideal for specialty coffee and a longer, more relaxed breakfast.
Save this list to Google Maps to check distances from wherever you are. Florence is small — everything is walkable.
